Sources of funding
PRS for Music Foundation are the UK’s leading independent funder of new music across all genres. They offer many targeted funding opportunities such as the Momentum Music Fund as well as an Open Fund for music creators and organisations with three deadlines annually. Funding is very competitive and applicants must be able show a track record of performing and creating high quality original music.
Help Musicians, formerly The Musicians Benevolent Fund, offer regular funding opportunities for emerging UK artists as well as programmes that support working and retired musicians in challenging circumstances. Help Musicians website also has a helpful Funding Wizard which can help to identify suitable sources of funding.
Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts programme can support musicians to undertake activities such as touring, research and development, making work, audience development and marketing activities. Applications for awards of £1,000 to £15,000 will receive a decision within six weeks of submission.
Music Development Agencies
Based in the North East, Generator provides advice and guidance to promoters, agents, managers, labels, publishers and artists across the UK from workshops and master classes to one-to-one business support. They also programme the annual Evolution Emerging festival in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley which features some of the region’s most exciting new bands and artists.
