Placement Opportunities at Sage Gateshead
Sage Gateshead is committed to supporting the development of everyone interested in the arts. As part of this commitment, we welcome and seriously consider any appropriate requests for work experience or volunteer opportunities.
A work or volunteer placement can be a valuable way to gain an insight into the Creative Industries.
Our online application form will be live on this page of the website between
- April 3rd – 17th 2017 , for placements starting anytime between June 2017 – December 2017
- November 6th – 24th 2017 , for placements starting anytime between January 2018 – June 2018
Please be aware that in order to provide and maintain high quality, appropriate and productive placements, we are often unable to offer as many placements as we would like to nor are we always able to accommodate the length of placement requested.
Please note that we are currently unable to accommodate applications for paid placements or paid internships.
GCSE and A-Level Work Experience Weeks
We offer a limited number of Work Experience weeks for GCSE and A-Level students and we provide a three day work experience week (effective from April 1st 2015) which includes Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Working hours for these days will normally be 9.30am – 4.30pm with a one-hour lunch break from 12.30pm to 1.30 pm.
The three-day placement offers you an opportunity to sample a range of activity that happens within our organisation. The placement begins with a full induction including Health and Safety processes and procedures, a behind the scenes tour of the building and a brief introduction to Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
During a typical work experience placement, you might participate and/or assist in a range of music making activities, assist the Customer Experience Team and there may be some light administration duties such as photocopying, data entry or filing.
Please note that there are limited opportunities for students interested in gaining experience with the Technical Operation team (sound, light and stage management). Much of this activity takes place after 16:00 and we are unable to provide the necessary supervision due to Health and Safety requirements. There may, however be opportunities to observe technical setups in the various performance spaces in the building during the day.
At the end of the work experience week, you will be required to attend a review/evaluation meeting. This allows you to reflect on your working experience and provides us with valuable feedback.
All work experience placements are supervised by the Placements and Volunteering Coordinator.
Undergraduate, Graduate and Post Graduate
We currently do not offer Internships, however if you are still interested in a work placement, please note that we are currently only able to accommodate placements of no longer than two weeks duration. If you require a placement as an essential part of your University degree or College qualification, please indicate this on the application form and it will be given consideration.
Applications are welcome from anyone wishing to offer their services to the organisation in a voluntary capacity. You may want to volunteer for a half-day per week, one day per week or a full week. Placements for more than one week will also be considered; please make this clear on your application form. We are generally unable to accommodate volunteers on a Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.
Should you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact Debbie Little, Placements and Volunteering Coordinator on 0191 443 5039.
